The Lazy Man"s Way to Litter Train a Puppy - 8 Steps to Litter Training Your Puppy

Learning to litter train a puppy is not as difficult as you would think and it is not just for cats anymore.
Many people are choosing to use a litter box for training their puppy instead of paper training.
Why? Because litter can be easily cleaned and won't stick to your floors like paper! If you are looking for easy ways to litter train your puppy - check out these helpful steps to make the job easy!
  • Buy A Litter Box: Get one that is shot enough for your pup to be able to walk into.
  • Buy "Clumping" Litter: Make your cleanup easier and get litter that clumps when it gets wet.
  • Pick Your Litter Box Spot: Where do you want the puppy to go? Many choose a bathroom or out of the way place so no one has to watch him relieving himself.
  • Take Your Pup After He Wakes Up: This is the perfect time to take your puppy to the litter box as all puppies need to empty their bladders shortly after waking up.
  • After Urinating - Poop soon follows: Puppies typically will need to poop soon after urinating.
Be prepared to run him back to the box.
  • Watch For Signals: Your pup will give off signals when he needs to go (usually walking and sniffing at the same time).
When you see this pick up your pup and run him to the litter box.
  • Praise your Pup!: When he does his job in the box, make sure you praise the heck out of him! This is the only way he will begin to understand that this is where you expect him to go.
  • Rinse and Repeat: Pretty soon your puppy will be going to the litterbox by themselves when they need to use the bathroom!
Have patience - your puppy isn't going to learn this overnight! Just remember he is still a baby and trying to please you.
Just keep following the above and he'll be doing this on his own in no time.
Once you have your puppy litter trained - the next step is to get them trained to hold it all day and to use the bathroom outside.
