How to Hide a VNC Tray

    TightVNC 2.x

    • 1). Launch the TightVNC server settings from your "Programs" menu.

    • 2). Click the "Server" tab to access your server settings.

    • 3). Click "Disable Tray icon" to disable any display of the tray icon in the system tray.

    • 4). Click "Apply" or "Ok" to save your settings.

    UltraVNC

    • 1). Launch the UltraVNC server from your "Programs" menu.

    • 2). Right-click the tray icon, and click the "Admin Properties" option.

    • 3). Tick the "DisableTrayIcon" option under the "Misc." section of the Admin Properties dialog.

    • 4). Click "Apply" or "Ok" to save your settings.

    The In-Depth Way

    • 1). Open the "Run" dialog from the "Start" menu.

    • 2). Type "regedit," and press "Enter" to access your system's registry.

    • 3). Navigate through the Windows system registry to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL\WinVNC3".

    • 4). Change the "DisableTrayIcon" value to read ""DisableTrayIcon"=dword:00000001" and save your changes.

    • 5). Restart your VNC server to disable the icon.
