Rimbaud"s Left Hand: A Great Cocktail with an Interesting Inspiration
It took me a minute to figure out the story behind the name of this cocktail, created by Stephen Cole of The Violet Hour in Chicago, but only a minute.
It alludes to Arthur Rimbaud (19th century French poet) whose left hand was shot off by his fellow poet and lover, Paul Verlaine. The story goes that Rimbaud wanted to return to Paris but Verlaine didn't. As with many artists of the time, both men were avid absinthe drinkers, thus Cole's muse for this cocktail in the Pernod Absinthe "muse series." It's a great drink filled with a fantastic flavor combination and creamy mouthfeel.
