Make a quick checklist - List out the reasons why you want to quit.
Is it because you want to raise a happy healthy family, because you love your children and you don't want them to have all these respiratory illness in their life, because you want to set a good example to your kids or what? The WHY is more important than the HOW.
When you have the strong WHY you want to quit, you will know HOW to quit.
If you know the HOW but do not know the WHY, chances are you are less likely to make it.
Write out all the benefits that you can get when you quit smoking.
What are the things you can do if you stop smoking? Visualize - Visualize what you life would be if you stop smoking.
See yourself as a happy healthy person.
See the smiles and the laughter on the face of your love ones.
It is because you stop smoking that they feel happy and healthy.
See yourself being young again.
Feel your body free from nicotine.
See and feel all the goodness pour into your life as a reward of you, stop smoking.
Getting ready to Quit - First of all, you need to know why you smoke because that's the root of the problem.
You can not solve a problem unless you know cause of the problem.
Is it because you feel bored? Is it because you feel stress? Relax yourself and think of the reasons why you smoke.
Then, you eliminate the problems.
If you feel bored, try to fill your "bored" time with meaningful activities such as socializing with friends or neighbors or exercising.
Reduce the amount of the smoke you consume - All right.
It may be hard to quit smoking immediate for certain people.
If that's the case, you can try to reduce amount of the tobacco you consume.
If you are consuming a packet of cigarettes a day, make it half a packet per day after 2 weeks and quit totally after a month.
This method is not very effective but it does help for those who can't stop immediately.
The better way, of course is to quit immediately and say, "That's it.
I don't want to touch tobacco anymore.
" Affirm to yourself that you are going to lead a very healthy life from today onwards.
Set a deadline - Set a date for you to quit totally and treat it as a goal.
Be specific.
Say by 31st of December 2007 instead of by the end of this year.
You must be committed to your goal.
After you have quit smoking, stay where you are.
Enjoy the benefits.
Keep thinking that you are feeling healthy.
Always thinking of the reason why you need to continue to stay this way.
