What's The Future of Senior Care?

With multiple shifts in economies and technologies as well as geriatric medications, healthy aging is viewed differently.

There's no surprise that senior living and caring options are changing as per the socioeconomic conditions. Providers leave no stone unturned to offer out-of-the-box senior caring solutions. More and more aged residents tighten their budgets in face of rising economic tumults.  Many retirement homes in India are located in eco-friendly areas. The retirement homes are becoming smart homes with expanded amenities. Read further to explore new trends in senior care.

Rise of cutting-edge senior care

Technology has revolutionised senior care facilities. A personal care robot is just a beginning.  Also, concepts of smart homes have gained foothold in the senior care sector. A smart home is equipped with computer systems that track the elderly medication schedules.  Further, smart homes have wireless networks, rendering mobile bedside support to seniors.

Multigenerational housing options

Most active older adults don't wish to move in a senior housing facility. The elderly are comfortable with an independent lifestyle. In multigenerational housing, entire family modifies the existing home and builds a section dedicated for the elderly. In multigenerational housing facility, at least three generations stay under one roof.

The downfall of nursing home model

Researchers say that nursing home models are on a decline.   Many aged residents and their respective families prefer the options of memory care, home care or independent living.  The primary factor that is responsible for such a shift is the high costs associated with skilled nurses. Another reason that has led to the decline of nursing home model is its stark environment.

Civic centres and localities having friendly neighbourhood

With economy still recuperating, many have postponed their retirement to continue working. Such people prefer living close to commercial circuits and city centres. Also, there are numerous aged people with limited mobility, who still want to reside in downtown (having all amenities). Owing to such reasons, many community planners have come up with senior-friendly housing communities and townships.

Old citizen co-housing facility

Elderly co-housing is a way by which the active elderly experience the merits of community living. This experience is, however, on a smaller scale i.e. without the feeling of a nursing home. Co-housing is a type of community where the elderly reside in independent homes and have access to shared spaces such as recreation facilities and gardens. In such a co-housing facility, residents have a say in community decisions.

Eco-friendly retirement facility

Different types of eco-friendly communities are being built for older citizens. The term eco-friendly, nowadays, encompasses economical also.  The focus is on giving older residents the best environmental living condition while they approach their golden years. A green infrastructure includes LEED-certified facilities.

These are a few of many trends that are consistently shaping the contemporary caring as well as retirement facilities.
