Ford Focus, Chevrolet Orlando, Ford Fiesta

2011 Ford Fiesta come in an array of colors, ranging from the basic Tuxedo Black and Oxford White to the quirky Lime Squeeze, Yellow Blaze and Red Candy. The Fiesta is available as a four-door sedan or five-door hatchback. Four trims are available: the base S, SE, SEL and SES. Note that the base S is available only as a sedan. Also, the sedan isn't available in the SES trim, and the hatch isn't available in the SEL, though the two trims are nearly identical in terms of the features and options they offer. The base Fiesta S is starts at $13,320, while the SES trim starts at $17,120.

The 2011 Ford Fiesta reliability score shown is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. This score is based on trending the past three years of historical initial quality and dependability data from J.D. Power's automotive studies, specifically the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study (IQS). The 2011 Ford Fiesta warranty information hasn't been released yet. However, Ford covers its other vehicles with a three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

The Ford Focus is completely redesigned for the 2012 model year, and reviewers love the updates. Not only are the Focus's exterior and interior changes impressive, but it's also more fun to drive than the previous generation. The Ford Focus was popular and well-liked when it debuted in 2000, but over time the competition improved, and the Focus lost its appeal.

Now, eleven years later, Ford has completely redesigned the Focus in hopes that it will regain its reputation as a top choice among affordable small cars. With well-rounded competitors like the Chevrolet Cruze, Mazda3 and Honda Fit, Ford has revamped the Focus from the inside out to take on the competition. The interior was one of the first things to change, now featuring more high tech options.

The Orlando's steering is well weighted but a little vague around the dead-ahead position and the brakes are only just acceptable, needing a firm shove to stop and with a non-linear pedal action that makes it difficult to slow smoothly. The cabin shows what progress Chevrolet has made in recent years in terms of quality and design, but the competition hasn't stood still, and there's a slight crudeness about the Orlando's plastic panels and pockmarked piano black trim.

The Orlando passes muster in the sector and it makes a sort of sense, but what looks like an unmissable bargain when you first hear the price isn't quite so cheap when you realise what it costs to spec up this MPV to a competitive level.

Reviewers are nearly unanimous in saying that the 2011 Ford Fiesta sets new benchmarks for the affordable small car class -- even reviewers who don't go that far say Honda and Toyota should watch their backs. The Fiesta debuted in 2010, and this year, the Fiesta gets even more accolades: We named it the 2011 Best Subcompact Car for the Money.
