How to Change the Rear Springs on a Ford Taurus

    • 1). Lift up your Taurus using the jack, and place the car on jack stands. Make sure the car is secure before you crawl underneath it.

    • 2). Place the jack underneath the rear axle, and lift it up until it just contacts the axle body. Unbolt the lower shock mount from the axle, using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, and slowly lower the jack until the springs fall out from between the frame and the axle.

    • 3). Place the replacement springs on top of the axle, and lift it up using the jack until the springs are sitting in the top spring pockets.

    • 4). Bolt the shocks back to the lower shock mounts on the axle, using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Raise the Taurus off the jack stands, using the jack, and place it back on the ground.
