- 1). Get the payee to endorse the check. For instance, if the check is made out to your wife or relative, you can have the person endorse the check under the payee's signature. Some payees will write "payable to" or "endorsed to" under their signature, but this is not required. You then sign the check below the original payee's signature. The bank will then cash the check to you.
- 2). Open a business account under your own name and under a doing business as, or "dba" name using your business name. This is a common practice for sole proprietorships. This tells the bank that you and the business are the same from a legal standpoint. This will allow the bank to accept a check written to your business or to you.
- 3). Deposit the check into the business account and write your own check on the account for cash. Some banks will not allow you to cash a check made out to the business name. In this case, you will need to deposit the check and then write a check made out to cash on the account for the amount you need or have the bank fill out a bank check for the amount you need.
