Goal Setting For Soccer, Part 7 - Motivation

Getting up can be hard.
Pushing yourself to put more time or effort into soccer conditioning can be difficult.
What can you do it stay motivated? Motivation: There are two types of motivation: intrinsic and extrinsic.
Intrinsic means it comes from within yourself.
It's the good feeling you get when you accomplish something or do good for someone else.
Extrinsic means from the outside.
It's getting a reward or certificate.
It's getting a candy for a correct answer.
It's receiving a trophy or ribbon for coming in first.
We frequently chose our goals by the prize we see at the end.
Yet, that is not the best way to achieve your goal.
When we go for a prize, it is perceived as work.
Work is boring and we fight it.
When you get rewards, it tends to decrease the urge to work harder.
Therefore, you need to come up with intrinsic motivations for achieving your goals.
How will you feel when you accomplish your first A on your goal setting list? What will achieving 100% do for you?.
Typical answers are: *Feel better about myself *Feel worthwhile *Be happy *Find ways to set more difficult goals The last point is interesting.
We do better when goals and tasks are challenging.
They keep us interested.
They keep us curious about how we will accomplish them.
So your first step is to write three or four ways that achieving your goals is going to help you.
When I accomplish my first short term goal, I will feel: 1.

__________________________________ 3.
__________________________________ While soccer must be fun, as you get older and play at higher levels it isn't always.
You have to make it fun by setting challenging goals Celebrations One last point.
It is important to celebrate your participation and success.
You deserve recognition for attempting great feats.
Sometimes no one will give it to you...
so you must do it yourself.
After you've made your SMART goals, be sure to celebrate.
Maybe it's a dinner or a movie.
Maybe it's buying a new jersey.
Whatever it is, make it fun.
Acknowledge yourself for doing something great.
Take pride in it.
