How to Adjust the Timing in a Chevy Corvette

    • 1). Start the Chevy Corvette engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Turn off any accessories such as the radio, lights or climate control. Turn the engine off and set the emergency brake.

    • 2). Locate the crank pulley at the bottom of the engine block and clean off any dirt or grime necessary to expose the timing marks on the pulley. Remove the number one ignition wire located at the front driver's side of the engine.

    • 3). Connect the timing light to the car battery and then to the number one ignition wire. Start the car and aim the timing light directly at the crank pulley timing mark on the Camaro.

    • 4). Adjust the timing by loosening the distributor hold down clamp bolts and turning the distributor slightly. Continue adjusting until the crank pulley timing mark matches the middle line on the timing light.

    • 5). Tighten the distributor hold down clamp bolts and recheck the timing. Turn off the car engine and remove the timing light. Reconnect the number one ignition wire.
