How to Check the Status of Tax Filing

    • 1). Collect the following pieces of personal data from your IRS tax filing forms: Social Security number, filing status and refund amount. Write these data on a separate piece of paper for faster reference.

    • 2). Navigate to the IRS "Get refund status" webpage (see References).

    • 3). Type your Social Security number in that respective section. The box is in three sections to correspond with the parts of the number: "123-45-6789." The browser form will automatically tab over to the next field as you complete numbers in the preceding field.

    • 4). Click your cursor on the radio button that applies to your filing status. After you click, the radio button fills and turns blue.

    • 5). Type in your refund amount in whole dollars in the field labeled with the "$" (dollar sign).

    • 6). Click the "Submit" button and wait for the website to retrieve your information. The subsequent page will provide your refund status. Results vary by taxpayer, so read and follow any instructions on the following pages.
