How to Cope With Internet Marketing Information Overload

Almost every business area suffers to a degree from information overload.
But internet marketing seems to have a very large amount of information associated with it and mountains more are being added all the time.
Partly because it's a very profitable area of business if you can manage to get it right.
Which, in turn, brings in a lot of highly professional marketers to ply their wares.
So how can you do your best to make sure that you're not so swamped by information about internet marketing that you just end up in perpetual analysis paralysis? Prune your emails It's very easy to join list after list after list.
Especially since you're often automatically subscribed to a list after you buy a product or are persuaded to join one for "essential updates" which - after a few days - are only really essential for the list owner to sell you something else.
Ruthlessly pruning the number of email lists you're subscribed to almost certainly needs to be a regular occurrence.
Otherwise in a few months you're likely to be back to square one.
Pay attention to the emails you actually read on a regular basis.
And unsubscribe from any you haven't read in the last few weeks (or longer!) rather than pressing the "delete" button which is really just postponing the day when you need to unsubscribe.
Limit your forum access Unless forum marketing is part of your strategy, it's worth limiting your forum access.
Especially in the internet marketing world where there are so many opinions out there and so many temptations to sign up for the next shiny penny offer that promises to be the one that actually makes your fortune rather than costs it.
Set aside time for learning I know this is supposed to be about overcoming information overload but - weird as it may sound - learning more about your subject isn't the same as being overloaded by information.
Apart from anything else, the things you learn will help you to sort out the wheat from the chaff with the other information you're exposed to on a daily basis.
So you'll already know the vast majority of whatever there is to know in your chosen specialty area of internet marketing.
For instance, if you're a video marketer you'll already know that the things you need to do are:
  • Optimise your title, tags and description
  • Add an annotation or two
  • Correct the automatically generated captions
  • Encourage more views.
I've just given you the essence of every "get more traffic from YouTube" product out there and you've almost certainly nodded "I know that" on each bullet.
So unless you're missing one of those parts of the jigsaw, there's no point in buying another product on YouTube.
The same goes for any other area of internet marketing.
List out your knowledge in bullet points like the ones above and run those bullet points against the sales letter of whatever it is that's attempting to help overwhelm you again.
If there are no obvious gaps that need to be filled in, there's no need to buy anything.
Spend the time you would have spent reading or watching the product productively by actually doing some internet marketing yourself!
