How to Change the Brake Lights on a VW

    • 1). Open the Volkswagen's trunk lid.

    • 2). Remove the two screw covers located at the side of both brake light units, revealing two T25 Torx screws.

    • 3). Remove the screws with a T25 Torx screwdriver, counterclockwise.

    • 4). Pull the brake light unit downwards, revealing the top edge of the brake light unit.

    • 5). Put a wedge tool (found at most auto parts shops) between the Volkswagen's body and the outer edge of the brake light unit.

    • 6). Pull on one side of the brake light unit with your hand and the other side with the wedge tool towards you to pop the brake light unit from the Volkswagen.

    • 7). Unplug the wiring harness located behind the Volkswagen's brake light unit to disconnect it from the brake light unit.

    • 8). Repeat the steps in reverse to install the new brake light unit on the Volkswagen.
