Introduction to abscesses
An abscess is a gentle mass which is generally enclosed by coloured part from pink to red. We can define it as a swollen part within the tissue of the body, which contains pus. When a person touches it, feels painful. They can be present on any part of the body. The most common areas where they can be seen are armpits, base of spine, areas around anus, around tooth, and in groin. If there is an inflammation near hair follicle, then it can also leads to boils. Unlike other contamination, antibiotics are not just sufficient to cure this disease. Generally, it must be open and drain to remove it. Sometimes it is removed by drainage only but many times it is treated by doctor through incision process.
Causes of abscess
Abscess in any part of the body is generally occurs due to the infection which is caused by bacteria. Some bacteria's forms the pus and make toxins, which results the damage of the tissues. These include Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus. We can also define the cause of this infection, which is the result of obstruction of the oil from sebaceous glands, inflammation of hair follicles, punctures or minor breaks in the skin. When such situation occurs, germs get into the skin and results the infection.
Then middle of the abscess liquefies and enclosed with dead bacteria, cells and other debris. After this the infected area starts growing and creating tension under the skin of the person and afterwards inflammation of the tissues occurs. Such inflammation and pressure result in acute pain.
Individuals who have weak immune system are more prone to such disease as compared to other. People who have problems like diabetes, cancer, chronic steroid therapy, severe burns and trauma, AIDS, leukaemia, drug abuse are more prone to different form of abscess as compared to normal people.
