How to Remove a 1998 Civic Rear Bumper

    • 1). Remove the bumper mounting screws from the corner edges of the bumper on each side using the Phillips head screwdriver. Place the screws in the plastic container for safe keeping.

    • 2). Remove the lower trunk covers by taking out the black plastic clips. Use the flathead screwdriver to pop the clips out of place.

    • 3). Remove the two lower bumper mounting nuts using the 10-mm socket wrench, and take off the rear trim panel.

    • 4). Remove the two upper bumper mounting nuts in the trunk area with the 10-mm socket wrench. With another person, gently pull out the bumper from the vehicle and remove the license plate light wires.

    • 5). Remove the bumper completely from the vehicle and set the bumper down on a blanket to help prevent damage.
