How to Add a Second Battery to a Boat

    • 1). Open the battery storage compartment and place the second marine battery next to the stock battery in the tray, and align the battery terminals so that the positive terminal on one battery is on the same plane as the positive terminal on the second battery.

    • 2). Secure the battery to the chassis of the boat using a battery tie down and a 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Disconnect the wing nuts on the negative terminals of the first battery using your hands. Take the wire connected to the negative terminal on the first battery and move it to the negative terminal on the second battery, then tie down the wing nut.

    • 3). Run the pre-terminated battery cable across the negative terminal on the first battery to the positive terminal on the second battery and secure it to the terminals by tightening the wing nuts. Start the boat and make sure that it starts and runs for about 10 minutes to ensure that both batteries are getting charged.
