WWE Star Kane Discusses His Movie: See No Evil

Standing 6?9? with 300 pounds of muscle, WWE superstar Kane was practically made to play a horror movie killer. In See No Evil, his first feature film, Kane plays Jacob Goodnight, terrorizing a slew of teen delinquents performing community service at his secret lair. Of course, he?s much nicer in real life. Taking a break from his home in Knoxville, TN, Kane spoke eloquently and thoughtfully about his largely brutish work.

Kane on His Character in See No Evil: ?Jacob first and foremost is a killing machine in the vein of a Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees. However, I think Jacob is much deeper than those characters. He?s a human being who chooses to be a killing machine and he is a human being. And there are points in the movie where you do see his humanness come out. To me, that makes Jacob even scarier because he knows what he?s doing and he chooses to do it anyway."

Getting Into Character for See No Evil: ?First of all, because of my experience with WWE, I did all my own stunts in the movie. And then also, I used to wear a mask for years when I first came into the WWE and I had to learn to portray emotions and basically perform with body language. This is something that I think I do very well as Jacob Goodnight also.?

Kane?s used to relying on his physical prowess but in See No Evil there?s the added aspect of playing a character who likes to use chains and axes as weapons. ?I think it?s great actually. It?s different from what I normally do.

Normally I dispatch my opponents in the wrestling ring with my bare hands, which I do a little bit in the movie too.?

Life on the Set: ?The set was awesome. In fact, the set almost takes on a life of its own. The environment and the mood it creates almost become their own character. They become such an ingrained part of the movie. And yet it was nasty. It had to be to make it come across like it looks on the screen. Actually, I would say to see it in person was even more impressive than it looks like on the screen, which is saying something because it looks impressive on the screen.?

Stunt Work in See No Evil: Kane admits that it?s actually easier to perform the stunts required of him in See No Evil than what he goes through as a WWE star. ?Especially with the physicality that I?m used to in the WWE, they are actually I think much easier to do,? said Kane.

The Transition from Wrestling to Feature Films: Kane feels making the move into films could be considered a natural progression. ?Yeah, it is actually because our product, of course, is based on a television product. We do a lot of the same things. I was doing the same things on the set that I do with the WWE with the exception of in the WWE we do things live for the most part. We do things in one take and of course in movies, that?s completely different.?

Although it seems as though it?s the natural next step in Kane?s career path, acting wasn?t necessarily something he planned on getting into. ?It was never really something that I planned on doing,? explained Kane. ?It was a project that WWE chairman Vince McMahon talked to me about and I was very interested in doing because I thought I could do well with the Jacob Goodnight character. But as far as being like an aspiration to make movies, to be a movie actor, that wasn?t one of mine.?

Cross-Promoting the Movie and WWE: ?This is WWE?s debut film done in conjunction with Lionsgate so we?re going to use every avenue we can to get people in the movie theater. And once they see it, they?re going to realize it is a very good movie and they?re going to tell everyone else about it too. But we have with Monday Night Raw and with SmackDown, we have an opportunity to promote the movie through our shows, which we do with the trailers and all that. So yeah, of course we?re going to take that opportunity.?

Working for Vince McMahon: ?One thing about Vince is he asks you to work very hard, but the other thing about him is that he outworks everybody. He gives people opportunities and if you can capitalize on the opportunity, more power to you. But that?s all anyone can ask is for an opportunity and he gives them to you. And also Vince is very loyal to people. He?s good to the people that have been with him for years so I couldn?t really ask for a better boss.?
