- 1). Cut the pieces of wood to the appropriate size or purchase them from your local home improvement store. Run a small amount of wood glue along the edge of one piece and snugly press it up against another. Nail these two pieces together and continue until you have a solid frame for the box. Screw L-brackets together on the inside for added support.
- 2). Measure the opening of the frame and cut a piece of wood to fit. This will serve as the bottom to the box. Next, cut a similar piece of wood approximately 1 inch larger to serve as the top piece. Run wood glue along the corners of the bottom piece and secure it in place. Screw the edges into the frame.
- 3). Cover the sides of the box with batting so that there is enough for there to be 1-2 inches of extra batting to be stapled over the side. Cover the batting with a fabric of your choice and staple it in place.
- 4). Return to the top piece and use a pencil to draw a 1 inch perimeter around the edges. Attach thin pieces of wood trim to this piece and secure them with small nails. Cover the outside of the lid with batting, staple it, and then repeat with fabric. The lid will now come off easily and can serve as extra storage space.
