- 1). Prepare an in-depth project proposal. Include a detailed explanation of what you want to accomplish, including preliminary steps, the procedure of the project itself and instructions on how to continue the results after the initial project is completed. Include a budget as well, explaining how much money you will need for the project and exactly what the money will be going toward. Also include an idea of how your project will affect the Minnesota watershed and the expected results.
- 2). Gain approval from a local government or nonprofit group. This can be done by presenting the document to your city council or county commission or contacting the nonprofit group directly. If your county or city has an environmental committee, contact the chair of this group first to learn how to present your proposal at the proper meeting. To be eligible for a Minnesota Watershed Grant, your proposal must have the backing of a local government or approved environmental protection group.
- 3). Apply for the Minnesota Watershed Grant. This can be done by going to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's website (see Resources) and downloading and printing the application forms. You can also call the Pollution Control Agency at 800-657-3864. You will be connected with a team member who can help you through the application process. You will need to submit your project proposal with your application, so make sure the document has no errors and has been approved by the local government agency or group with which you are working.
