- 1). Unplug the Netgear router from the wall outlet for 60 seconds. Reboot your computer and plug the router back into your wall outlet.
- 2). Switch Ethernet cables. Sometimes Ethernet cables may cause a loss of connection. Your Ethernet cable resembles a cord with a telephone connection, but the jack is slightly larger than what you would insert into your telephone.
- 3). Press and hold the reset button on your router, using a pointed object like a paper clip, for 30 seconds. Unplug the router while still pressing the reset button. Plug the router back into the wall outlet. Check to see if you are still are experiencing issues with your router.
- 4). Unplug the Ethernet cord from the back of your computer and plug it into a secondary computer or laptop if one is available. Your Netgear router is now hard-wired to another computer. Verify if you have the same issues on the secondary computer, which will confirm that the issue is with the router or Internet connection and not the computer.
- 5). Right-click on the Internet connection icon, which looks like a computer terminal and is located on the right-hand side of your PC's status bar. Choose "disconnect" or "disable." Wait approximately 45 second, and then click "enable" or "connect."
- 6). Visit Netgear.com's Support link. Type the model number of the router, WGT624. Click on the downloads tab and download the latest firmware for your model.
- 7). Contact your Internet service provider to determine if there any system outages in your area.
