Learn About Maine Maritime Academy and What It Takes To Get In

Maine Maritime Academy Description:

Maine Maritime Academy is a public institution with a professional focus in areas of engineering, management, science and transportation. The 35-acre campus is located on the waterfront in the small town of Castine, Maine, about 40 miles south of Bangor. Acadia National Park, Baxter State Park, and miles of beautiful coastline are all nearby. Maine Maritime frequently ranks highly among colleges in the Northeast thanks to its strong engineering programs, the co-op opportunities available to undergraduates, and the school's high job placement rates.

This small school has an impressive fleet of 60 vessels including the 500-foot State of Maine. The campus has ROTC options for both Navy/Marine Corps and Army, although fewer than 10% of graduates take a commission in the military. Student life is active with over 25 clubs and organizations. Many of these clubs -- dive club, yacht club, propeller club, sail training club -- take advantage of the college's waterside location. On the athletic front, the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners compete in the NCAA Division III North Atlantic Conference for most sports. The academy fields seven men's and six women's intercollegiate sports as well as coeducational sailing teams.
