Who"s GNR?
GNR is an abbreviation for Guns N’ Roses, the Los Angeles hard rock band led by frontman Axl Rose.
GNR came to fame in 1987 with their galvanic debut, Appetite for Destruction. They returned in 1991 with the Use Your Illusion double album, but soon Rose’s desire to push GNR into more experimental directions alienated his bandmates, such as guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan.
By the mid-‘90s, Rose was the only founding member of GNR still remaining.
Undaunted, he toiled for several years on GNR’s next album, eventually releasing Chinese Democracy in the fall of 2008.
Former GNR band members have gone on to pursue other projects. Slash formed Velvet Revolver with fellow Gunners McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum. In addition, McKagan established his own group, Loaded.
