- 1). Make or buy a notebook large enough for your guide. The amount of information you wish to place into the guide will determine the size of the notebook. Typically a three-to-five subject notebook is sufficient for this type of guide. Feel free to decorate the outside of the notebook according to your personal style.
- 2). Use the inside of the front cover as a table of contents. If you already have several chapter ideas, such as "Dealing with Bullies" or "Deciphering School Lunches," go ahead and write these chapter ideas down within the table of contents. Make sure to write small in case you have more chapters than you originally thought.
- 3). Write your current class schedule on the first page of the notebook. Save at least 15 of the first pages for class schedules to reserve enough room to make notes about the teacher and class; however, you can go into greater detail within further chapters. For example, if your class schedule for the second semester includes five courses, write each of the courses down with space underneath for vital notes. Later, add a chapter regarding that class, for example, "Surviving Physical Science with Mr. Blessing."
- 4). Reserve a page-per-day in the back of the notebook for daily notes. As inspiration for a school survival guide typically comes after experiencing a certain circumstance, writing your daily happenings will help you figure out future guide chapters.
- 5). Create a chapter that is at least 30 pages long for homework assignments. This not only gives you space to write down current homework, but also lets you make notes regarding how you survive homework. Make sure to date each of the entries to ensure you don't get confused as this chapter fills.
- 6). Create a miscellaneous information chapter. This chapter may include information you've learned through friends or in class. If you find a particular subject matter interesting and print off information from the Internet, paste online articles directly into the guide for quick reference.
- 7). Continue to add important survival and humorous information within the guide until the notebook is filled. If necessary, purchase an additional notebook for a Declassified School Survival Version 2.
