It's true that competition energizes us, sometimes to a never imagined level and we end up doing things we never thought possible. All thanks to the terror that the other guy is going to eat your lunch. We keep on trying to be the best.
Competition is always good, not only for the market players but also for the customers. Companies strive hard to lure people and expand their customer base. Customers also get various options, which is very crucial. If we talk about the technology, things have gone way too far! Web and mobile application development companies are actually having a cold-war when it comes to innovations and services at extremely competitive pricing.
Capitalism, a limited warfare
It might happen occasionally, but yeah, capitalism definitely works sometimes in this modern world also. By modern world, I mean to say that the people who actually want to rule the world have to keep their customers happy and satisfied. They know their monopoly is a limited warfare. The day someone will rise against them will be the end of their market.
The Silicon Valley Fight: A wimpy One
Once upon a time, it was Apple vs. Microsoft. Now it is Apple vs. Google!
One thing is for sure, the fight was always there in the Silicon Valley!
But the question here is- what kind of wars has Silicon Valley been witnessing lately? Surely wimpy ones! Apple and Google have been the biggest rivals for years. They have gradually disentangled from several mutually decided agreements. And the game changed at WWDC (World-wide Developers Conference) where every step of Apple appeared to be a weapon against Google increasing reach and popularity. What do we call it- battle of ideas?
Is it a battle of ideas?
Let's try to understand like this. Apple has got its niche market when it comes to sophisticated smartphones, tablets and laptops.
Let's talk about Apple's bravery first-
1. Apple Maps tried to replace Google Maps.
2. Apple slammed Samsung for copying its products and designs. Of course Samsung was never in the game.
3. Apple replaced Google with Bing as its default search engine in its latest Mac OS X.X Yosemite.
Google's turn:
Google was actually into web, a search engine in fact. When it actually did well on the web, it started expanding and tried its hands in Mobile. It came up with the Android OS, which gradually became the biggest mobile device player in the world. The best part is that it happened long back. The graph shows you how Google overtook Apple's app market. This is one of the biggest reasons why more and more iPhone app developers started looking towards Android. Maybe Apple couldn't digest it.
Is this the reason why the conflicts started?
Hold on, there are more to come!
Apple has got its whole OS. It is supposed to have its own browser. Now Google came up with its own browser- Chrome! Again, since Chrome is open-source and is compatible everywhere, it did exceptionally well. And again, a turn-down for Apple!
Does Google really care?
We all are eagerly waiting to see how Google strikes back! But the question is- Is Google really worried about it! It doesn't seem to be! What Google is doing now is it is focusing more on future devices. Their biggest innovation in recent times is Google Glass. Needless to say, the idea behind Google Glass and its integrations with every mobile phone are going to change the concepts of mobile application development.
The question here becomes- Is Google defending itself from the head-to-head war? Or is it preparing itself for the future?
Grab the popcorn! It is going to be a must-watch war.
