How to Replace the Brake Light in a 2006 VW Jetta

    • 1). Open the trunk of your Jetta. On either side, you will see two small plastic clamps. Turn the clamps on the side where the burned-out bulb is and pull away the door.

    • 2). Inside the door is a tray containing all the light bulbs. Press the tabs on each side of the tray simultaneously to release the tray. The brake light is the bottom of the three bulbs.

    • 3). Remove the burned-out bulb by turning it counterclockwise and pulling gently.

    • 4). Insert the new bulb into position and turn it clockwise.

    • 5). Replace the tray and close the door in the trunk. Close the trunk.

    • 6). Repeat the steps on the opposite side of the car, if necessary.
