- 1). Select your fishing line according to the depth you will be fishing your crankbait. For deeper fishing, use small-diameter line or weighted fluorocarbon line. For shallow fishing, you will be using a buoyant crankbait, so almost any line will do.
- 2). Tie your crankbait to the end of your line with a knot that allows it to swim and dance freely. Open loops are the best for this purpose and the Rapala knot (see resources, below) is a popular choice.
- 3). Before casting your crankbait, hold it in one hand and move the loop on your line around. Make sure that, while the crankbait can move freely, the loop does not snag on the crankbait's hooks. If it does, cut your line and retie with a smaller loop.
You are ready to fish.
