How to Replace a Chevy Ignition Switch

    • 1). Remove the screws holding your Chevy's steering column cover in place using a cross point screwdriver. There are normally two screws on the underside of the steering column and two to three screws on the top of the steering column.

    • 2). Pull the steering column cover off of the steering column using your hands.

    • 3). Insert the ignition key into the ignition and turn the key to the "II" position.

    • 4). Slide the punch pin into the access hole underneath the ignition switch and lock assembly.

    • 5). Push in on the punch pin and pull the ignition switch out with the ignition key.

    • 6). Insert the new ignition switch and lock assembly into the steering column and press it all the way in until it locks into the steering column.

    • 7). Replace the steering column cover, then thread and tighten the mounting screws with a screwdriver to secure the cover to the steering column.
