How to Install a 1999 Camry Window Regulator

    • 1). Remove the door lock knob, turning it counterclockwise and removing it from the door lock rod.

    • 2). Pry the outside mirror cover away from the door trim panel with a small pry bar.

    • 3). Pry the power window switch plate with a small pry bar. Remove the mounting screw underneath the switch plate with a Phillips screwdriver. Unplug the electrical connection to the back of the plate and pull the plate from the door panel.

    • 4). Unscrew the door panel retaining screws located on the door panel, including the retaining screws located in the armrest, with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 5). Insert a small pry bar between the door panel and the door. Pry the panel away from the door to dislodge the retaining clips from the mounting holes in the door. Pull the panel away from the door once all of the clips have been dislodged.

    • 6). Peel the plastic water shield from the door.

    • 7). Remove the mounting bolts holding the power window control unit with a socket wrench, unplug the electrical connection and pull the unit through the door access hole.

    • 8). Lower the window glass all the way into the door. Unscrew the retaining bolts holding the glass to the lift on the regulator with a socket wrench. Guide the glass up through the window opening. Hold the glass in place with duct tape, wrapping the tape over the door frame.

    • 9). Remove the window regulator mounting bolts with a socket wrench. Guide the window regulator through the access hole in the door.

      Slip the replacement window regulator through the access hole and align the mounting holes on the regulator with the mounting holes on the door. Insert the retaining bolts and tighten them with a socket wrench.

      Remove the tape holding the window glass to the door frame. Carefully guide the window glass down through the window opening and into the door, setting the bottom of the glass onto the lift plate on the regulator. Insert and tighten the retaining bolts holding the glass to the lift plate with a socket wrench.

    • 12

      Align the mounting holes with the power window control unit with the mounting holes on the door. Install the mounting bolts with a socket wrench. Plug in the electrical connection to the control unit.

    • 13

      Stick the plastic water shield back to the door.

    • 14

      Guide the electrical connection through the opening in the door panel for the power window switch, then press the door panel against the door. Push each retaining clip into the mounting hole around the perimeter of the door.

    • 15

      Push the side view mirror trim against the door to engage the retaining clips.

    • 16

      Install the retaining screw on the door panel, including the screws in the armrest, with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 17

      Place the power window switch plate near the door panel and install the mounting screw with a Phillips screwdriver. Plug the electrical connection in to the back of the switch plate. Push the switch plate against the door panel.

    • 18

      Screw the door lock knob onto the door lock latch rod.
