- 1). Comb your dog's fur before starting his bath. This will help remove loose fur and get out any mats or tangles.
- 2). Put one cotton ball in both of your Bichon's ears. This prevents water from getting in his ears, which can prevent infection and irritation.
- 3). Attach your spray nozzle, or turn it on if it is already attached. Test the water before placing your Bichon in the tub. This will prevent him from being scalded if the water is too hot. The water should not be hot because dog's are more temperature sensitive than humans. You want the water to be slightly above room temperature.
- 4). Make sure the bottom of the tub or sink is not slippery. If your tub or sink doesn't already have a non-slip surface, you may want to put a bath mat down to make sure your dog doesn't slip during bath time. Once you are sure the tub isn't hazardous, you can put your Bichon in.
- 5). Wet your Bichon from the top of his neck down. Leave him dry from the neck up. You will wash his face and head separately to prevent from getting water in his eyes, ears, and nose. Make sure his whole body is saturated.
- 6). Put some whitening dog shampoo in your hand. Lather your Bichon with the shampoo from the top of the neck down. Make sure to lather all areas, including his rear-end, tail and paws.
- 7). Rinse the whitening shampoo from your dog's fur. Apply a small amount of do conditioner or creme rinse. This will help prevent mats and tangles. Rinse the conditioner out completely.
- 8). Wet a clean wash cloth. Apply a pea sized drop of shampoo to the wash cloth. Ring it out. Use the wash cloth to carefully wipe your Bichon's face clean. Wet another clean wash cloth, and wipe the soapy water from his face with it. Make sure to avoid getting soap or water in your dog's eyes, ears, or nose.
- 9). Use your towel to get the excess water from your Bichon's fur. Let him shake out a few times too. This will help dry his fur. Blow your Bichon's fur dry the rest of the way. Use your lowest, coolest setting and keep the dryer at least a foot away from your dog to prevent burning him.
