People that currently own a 2003 Mercury Sable or want to purchase a used model must know about recalled parts which failed to meet industry standards. Ford Motor Company issued three major recalls for the 2003 Mercury Sable. Concerned owners can take the necessary steps to getting the repairs needed without any additional costs. - On March 1, 2004, the Ford Motor Company recalled the air filter element which is responsible for cooling the engine inside the 2003 Mercury Sable. The paper filters smoldered in a few of the models which led to damaged air induction systems and fires underneath the hood. A total of 399,926 Mercury Sable sedans fall under the recall. Owners of the affected vehicles must contact the Ford Company at 800-392-3673.
- After several windshields on the Mercury Sable model showed signs of water leakage and wind noise, a recall was issued on March 10, 2003. Having leaking windshields in a vehicle results in reduced occupant protection during the event of an accident. Ford reports 67,894 Mercury Sable vehicles need this repair. Repairs are made at no cost to the owner.
- After Mercury Sable vehicles were found to have faulty lamp switches and wiring, the Ford Motor Company issued a recall on March 2, 2004. Ford reports approximately 938,789 Sable units need this service.
