Executive coaching is very beneficial in enhancing the capabilities of an executive and empowers him/her to get more individual, organizational, emotional and professional perspective while taking decision and making strategies.
Even though there are a lot of coaching services, it can be very risky working with them as there aren't any set standards for a membership in this profession.
Few coaching organizations train and screen coaches but even their authority and professionalism aren't accepted universally.
There are different coaches in this field.
Some are great but lack the credentials or membership of a business organization, few come from human resource or psychology related fields and some have experience in real estate, sports or other unorthodox background with good track record.
But in the field of executive coaching, there are many good coaches without credentials and bad coaches with proper track record and credentials.
It makes the decision making process more difficult as how to judge a good coach.
The consequences of choosing a wrong coach could differ from wasting money and time to even damaging the executive's career.
But even with the risks, there is a way to avoid them i.
e.
to be informed regarding what goes inside the process.
The more an executive knows about how the coaching process goes on, the better his/her decision making choice (or identifying) regarding a good coach.
This also helps in active participation and achievement of coaching goals.
Knowing the process ensures that an executive is on his/her way to improvement and the quality of the coach wouldn't be that much a barrier.
