Rhode Island Tax Amnesty

Type of Program:

Amnesty.

When:

Ended on September 30, 2006.

Who Can Apply:

Individuals and business, both residents and non-residents of Rhode Island.

Relief Provided:

Waives all unpaid penalties, and avoids civil or criminal prosecution.

Requirements:

File all missing tax returns, and fully pay all taxes and interest. Interest is computed at 12% annually from the original due date of the return to the time of payment.

What if I don't participate:

Penalties and interest will apply. Interest rate raises to 18% on unpaid taxes. Fine of up to $10,000, or one year imprisonment, or both, for tax fraud or wilfull intent to evade Rhode Island taxes.

Program does not apply to:

Taxpayers under criminal investigation or involved in any pending criminal or civil court litigation for tax fraud.
