Portrait Photography - Filling the Frame

Here are some tips: 1.
Simply move your camera and position closer to your subject.
You'll need to concentrate full attention to the facial features and expressions of your portrait subject.
2.
By removing background and other details from the picture the impact of the image will be much more dramatic.
3.
With a normal lens you may have to move very close to your subject to fill the frame.
You will want your photos to include your models head and shoulders.
4.
Or you can use a longer lens.
You'll need to have the central portion of the picture enlarged during printing if you're using this method.
5.
And obviously the correct lighting is essential for close-up portraits.
Gentle, very soft light is the best.
Light from a window or a diffused flash is more flattering than harsh and will work perfect for the close-up shot.
Directional light tends to emphasize every fine line or misplaced hair! Never use direct or harsh light on a close-up portrait.
6.
Never use a short or wide-angle lens to take a close up as it will often distort the facial features.
For example, I have my 35mm-using photography students examine their 35-55mm lens by taking close ups with the wide angle first.
Next, I have my photography students use a longer 75-100mm portrait lens to see the dramatic difference.
This is a great assignment for any new or beginner photographer.
Close up photography is a standard portrait type that you will offer all your clients.
Make sure you give it your best shot literally.
