There are literally hundreds and hundreds of articles, blogs, websites, etc on how to beat a DUI charge.
Everyone has their own thoughts, ideas, and tips on how to accomplish this.
Typically those involve exercising your right to remain silent, declining any and all field sobriety tests, and asking to speak with an attorney before providing any blood or breath tests.
However there seems to be a lack of similar articles, blogs, and websites devoted on how to lose a DUI charge.
In other words a sure fire way to get arrested, and get convicted of a DUI.
Here are some tips on what not to do.
In other words things to avoid if you find yourself in the unpleasant situation of being investigated for a DUI.
Don't be rude.
Of course being investigated for any crimes is a frustrating process.
Especially when it comes to something like DUI.
But the best thing to do is just be polite with the arresting officer.
Being rude, cursing at the officer, calling him or her names is only going to hurt you.
This is an emotional process, but these emotions must be kept in check.
Don't think you can talk your way out of the day.
If you're being investigated for a DUI, no matter what you say or what you do chances are you will be arrested.
Do not try and talk your way out of it.
Its useless and often times anything and everything you say will be used against you later on.
Nobody has ever talked them way out of an arrest.
Don't think you're smarter than the officer.
When I say Don't think you're smarter than the officer I mean Don't try to show up the officer by your actions, or comments.
Again exercise your right to remain silent, and save all the chatter for when you get home and blow off steam, or save it for your attorney.
But Don't act this way to the officer.
Don't play games with the breath test machine.
Either take the breath test or not.
Whatever you do Don't play games with the breath test by pretending to blow, or pretending it is not reading your breath.
This just is silly and will only be used against you later on.
These are just a few of things to avoid during a DUI arrest.
The best thing to do is just remain silent and ask to speak with an attorney.
