- 1). Unlock the compass cover and open it halfway. The compass case should form a 90 degree angle, with the compass dial on the bottom and the top cover of the case upright.
- 2). Lift the lens arm, located across from the top cover, to a 45 degree angle.
- 3). Push the thumb hook (metal hook formed behind the lens) down until it clicks into place. It should be even with the bottom of the compass case. Place your thumb inside the thumb hook to stabilize the compass.
- 4). Determine where your target is located.
- 5). Adjust the sighting wire (in the top cover of the compass) so that it is at the center of your target.
- 6). Move the lens up and down until you can read the degree marks on the compass without looking away from your target.
- 7). Read the degree markings on the compass base. The directional arrow always points north. East is located at 90 degrees and west is at 270 degrees. The inner red ring around the face of the compass indicates degrees. Make a note of the reading from the red indicator line, as that is the location of your target.
