Canon Elura 100 Review
This year Canon did something a little different with their Elura line of camcorders. While last year the line had three different Elura models this year the camcorder manufacturer decided to replace the entire line with the Elura 100, price pointed at around $400.
Manual Controls
You can go completely automatic with the Elura 100, but for those video makers with a creative side may want to take advantage of the Elura's manual features.
You can adjust the camcorders focus, as well as change the camcorders shutter speed and exposure.
Zoom
The Elura 100 has a 20x optical zoom and an 800x digital zoom. The zoom of this camcorder is better than most camcorders at this price point, and should provide you with all the zoom you would need for general video taping.
Battery
One neat feature of the Elura 100 is that the battery for the camcorder is located inside the camcorder rather than externally like most other camcorders. The included battery lasts around two and a half hours which is more than most camcorders, especially those with internal batteries. The internal battery design makes the camcorder easier to handle and keeps you from being bogged down by a bulky external battery.
Digital Camera
The Elura 100 has a digital camera built into the camcorder. While the digital camera does not have a resolution good enough for prints it can be good for capturing stills to email to friends and family when you don?t have your digital camera on hand.
The still are stored on a secure digital memory card rather than on the tape for easy storage as well as easy download onto your computer.
Effects
If you want to add a little extra to your video the Elura 100 has several effects options such as art, black and white, mosaic, sepia, ball, cube, wave, color mask and mirror settings. There are also nine different fade options for the beginning and end of clips to give your video an edited look right out of the camcorder.
