The Maximum Capacities of iPads

    16 GB

    • Sixteen Gigabyte is the smallest capacity found on the iPad, as of June 2011. As 1GB is equal to 1,024 MB, therefore, the MB equivalent is approximately 16,000 MB. An iPad of this size can store about 2,000 songs in MP3 format.

    32 GB

    • This is the medium capacity option, which doubles the amount of storage and adds $100 dollars to the price, as of time of publication. This is the best option for someone who needs a little more space for music, apps and videos. Expect this size to hold at least 4,000 MP3s.

    64 GB

    • Sixty-four Gigabyte is the largest capacity available on the iPad, and the most expensive. It runs about $200 dollars more than the cheaper version but quadruples the amount of storage. The storage sizes are the only difference between the different models, the other specifications remain the same.

    Considerations

    • The iPad, like the iPhone and iPod Touch, have built-in internal storage. This means the number is permanent and cannot be upgraded to a larger size. Therefore, it is important to get the right size for the amount of space you need. If you plan to keep mostly songs, the 16GB should do. Purchase a bigger size if you download movies or large apps.
