How to Set Up the Mailbox on a Samsung Galaxy S Note II

Instructions

Initial Setup

1

Tap the “Email” icon in the home screen of the Note 2. If the Email icon has been removed from the home screen, tap the “Apps” icon, and then tap the “Email” icon in the Apps screen. The Setup Email screen opens.
2

Type the email address for an existing account into the first field and password into the second field.
3

Tap the “Show Password” check box to view the characters of your password as you enter them.
4

Tap “Next.” The Note 2 attempts to automatically set up your account on the phone. If the phone successfully sets up the account, the Account Options screen opens and you are almost done. Proceed to the section "Completing Email Setup." If the phone is unable to automatically configure the account, the Add Email Account menu displays, and you must manually set up the account, as discussed in "Manual Configuration."

Manual Configuration

1

Tap the option corresponding with your email account type in the Add Email Account menu. Tap “POP3 Account“ to set up POP and SMTP email servers. Tap “IMAP Account” to set up a Web-based account, like Gmail. Tap “Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync” option to configure a Windows Live or Outlook email account. The Server Settings window opens.
2

Type the domain and username for your server. Your username is usually your email address. If you use a domain name to log in to your account, preface your email address with the domain name and a backslash (“\”). For example, if your domain name is “Domain” and your username is “me@email.com,” type Domain\me@email.com.”
3

Type your email account password into the “Password” field.
4

Type the IP address or domain name of your email server into the Server field. If you are configuring a POP3 account, type the IP address or domain name for the POP3 server into the “POP3 Server” field, and then type the IP address or domain name for the SMTP server into the “SMTP Server” field.
5

Tap the check box in front of the “Use Secure Connection (SSL)” option if your email server is accessed through an SSL connection.
6

Tap the check box in front of the “Use Client Certificate” option if your server administrator has provided you with a security certificate for your email server. Tap the “Client Certificate” button to open a file browser. Navigate to and tap the desired certificate.
7

Tap “Next.” The Account Options screen displays.

Completing Email Setup

1

Click the “Email Retrieval Size” drop-down box in the Account Options screen, and then click the largest email that you wish to allow to download to your phone.
2

Click the “Period to Sync Calendar” drop-down box, and then click the desired time range for syncing.
3

Check the check box in front of each of the account preferences to enable. You can select “Notify Me When Email Arrives,” “Sync Email,” “Sync Contacts,” “Sync Calendar,” “Sync Task” and “Automatically Download Attachments When Connected to Wi-Fi.”
4

Click “Next.” The Account Name screen displays.
5

Type a name for the account into the Give This Account a Name field, if desired, and then tap “Done.” Your mailbox is now configured on the Note 2.
