The term Back acne is often abbreviated to Bacne. Pimples on your back are caused by the same over productive sebaceous glands as the acne on the face. These glands produce the oil "sebum" which clogs the pores of the skin. The shedding of skin cells compound the problem caused by excessive sebum production. This provides a perfect environment for bacteria to breed.
Although regular acne is more of a problem at puberty, anyone can suffer from back acne. Adults can develop acne on their back even though they never had a problem with it as teenagers. The problem with acne on the body is that it's harder to treat than facial acne. The skin on the body – especially the back – is thicker than skin on the face and therefore topical treatments are not as effective because the skin is a tougher barrier. Topical treatments for bacne are therefore stronger and should never be applied to the face.
There are remedies that you can apply with natural products that you may have on hand in your home. Some people swear by lemons, which they rub directly onto the skin. Other people have had great success with tomatoes, or the Bacne Vinegar Cure.
Some of these products contain natural acids that will help kill the bacteria that cause the back acne. You can make your own homemade scrub using grapefruits, sugar and sea salt or apply tea tree oil (a natural anti-bacterial). This is a natural exfoliate that will help to heal the effected area. As always, follow some simple steps, such making sure your clothing is not too tight and you shower regularly, and you may not get a severe case of bacne.
