- 1). If you have a credit card, you can register a dog on the USDAA website. (Follow the link under Resources.) The USDAA is different from other dog registries in that mixed-breed dogs do not have to be spayed or neutered in order to be registered, although dogs cannot compete until they are 18 months old.
- 2). Register a dog by mail with the form supplied on the USDAA site, or at the same time you enter a trial. Every trial-entry form also has a registration form attached; the registration fee can be sent to the host club along with the entry fee and forms, and the club will register your dog for you.
- 3). On the entry form. provide the most accurate measurement possible of your dog's height. The height is measured at the withers, which is the highest point on the dog's shoulders. The dog's height determines how high he will jump in competition. Unless your dog is 21" or higher at the shoulder, he must be measured by three different judges before you get your permanent registration card.
- 4). Provide your dog's birthdate. If you don't know when your dog was born, make the best guess you can.
- 5). Decide whether your dog will be registered in performance program or the championship program. To compete at the highest levels in accordance with international standards, enter your dog in the championship program. If you want to compete recreationally, the performance program offers lower jump heights, a greater time allowance for courses and a lower A-frame height.
- 6). When the temporary registration card comes in the mail, check it for any mistakes. The temporary registration card allows you to compete, but your dog must be measured by a certified measuring judge before being issued a permanent card. Carry the card with you to all trials in case you need to validate your dog's registration number at check-in.
