How to Configure a 2Wire Wireless DSL

    • 1). Check to make sure that you have all the proper equipment to connect. For a DSL connection, you need the 2Wire DSL modem, power adapter, Ethernet cable and phone line.

    • 2). Centrally locate the 2Wire modem in your house. This will provide the best reception. It also needs to be near a phone jack and a power outlet.

    • 3). Plug the phone line into the phone jack and the other end into the 2Wire router. Plug the power adapter into the 2Wire router and the other end into the wall.

    • 4). Attach the 2Wire to a nearby computer by plugging the Ethernet cable into the network port on the computer. Plug the other end into the WAN or Internet port on the back of the router.

    • 5). Turn on the 2Wire.

    • 6). Watch the lights on the front of the router. These tell you your connection status. You should (depending on the model) see a green Internet and Ready light when the router has made a connection and is ready to start passing traffic.

    • 7). Get the router login and router password. This is usually included in the information and setup guides that come with the router, or they may be on a sticker attached to the back of the router. You will need these to configure the 2Wire.

    • 8). Login to your router with a wireless-enabled computer. This is done by navigating to the address "http://gateway.2.wire.net" with a web browser. On some models, this will be "http://192.168.0.1" instead. Login with the router name and password.

    • 9). Click on "Wireless Settings" at the top of the screen. Here you will see your SSID, which is your network name. You can change this from the default to something that is easier to remember. Here you can also change the default network key that is your wireless password.

    • 10

Click "Wireless Channel" from the top of the screen. Underneath SSID Broadcast, click on the "Enable" button.

    • 11

Check the box labeled "Enable" located next to the Wireless Network Security option. In the "Authentication" menu, select "WEP-Open." Select the "Use Default Encryption Key" option.

    • 12

Click "Save" to save these changes to your router's configuration file. Restart the router by clicking "Restart the System" underneath the System tab.

    • 13

Test your router's configuration by opening up a web browser on a wireless-enabled computer. When prompted, enter the network SSID from Step 9.
