- 1). Disconnect the negative battery cable using a ratchet and socket. Start the car. Remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box and allow the engine to die on its own.
- 2). Climb beneath the vehicle and trace the fuel line running from the gas tank to the black insulated sleeve that houses the fuel pump. Carefully remove the insulation by hand, then unbolt the fuel pump from its mount using a ratchet and socket. It will hang in place by its electrical connections.
- 3). Remove the fuel line from its clamps using a ratchet and socket. Place a drain pan beneath the fuel pump, then label and remove the electrical wiring using a permanent marker and a flat-head screwdriver. Carefully lower the fuel pump by hand.
- 4). Connect the electrical wiring to the new fuel pump using a flat-head screwdriver. Attach the fuel line using a ratchet and socket, and push the fuel pump into its insulated sleeve.
- 5). Reinstall the fuel pump fuse. Reattach the battery cable. Prime the accelerator pedal a few times, then start the car.
