- In clinical studies with Cartia, the most common side effects occurred in about 3 to 5 percent of participants. These included headache, slow heart rate, dizziness and water retention in the feet, lower legs or hands (edema).
- Other possible Cartia side effects include weakness, flushing and nausea.
- Rare but serious side effects call for immediate medical attention. These include chest pain, irregular heartbeat, depression, high blood glucose, hallucinations and signs of low blood pressure including lightheadedness or fainting.
- Some people experience an allergic reaction to Cartia. Symptoms include hives or rash, wheezing or difficulty breathing, facial and mouth swelling, or throat closing.
- Cartia can elevate liver enzymes, which may be a symptom of liver dysfunction.
