Thegovernmental united states culture coming after the War between the states, included Johnson's administrative decisions concerning the Rebuilding of the south. Rebuilding of the south was divided into several ages. Executuve reconstruction (1865-1867) was the topic whenLincoln and Andrew johnson guided thefederal government's procedure toward the South. Theirprocedure was moderate in standard and allowed any Southern states to rejoin the Union in a brief time of time and without fundamental changes to the states economically, socially or politically. The powers of the executive branch had rapidly developed after Lincoln. He suspended habeas corpus which allowed federal authorities to arrest and hold people without trial. President johnson was a Southerner who was also an Unionist Democrat. President johnson was not absolutely supported by the Union party, a compound of Republicans and pro-union Democrats. Johnson also introducedagreements that were much compromising than the Republican governed Congress who favored " Radical Reconstruction" . All he required was that the regions would pledge loyalty to the United States. Although, Congress rejected the vast majority of Southern congress members and Senators. They requested conditions known as "Congressional Reconstruction" or "Radical Reconstruction". The circumstancess not only included pledges but also the ratification of the 13, 14, and 15 amendments. They also believed Southern states should be governed as conquered territories. These amendments entirely abolished slavery, gave citizenship to prior slaves, and gave Black men the right to vote. Within the first years of his reign he lost the defence of Radical Republicans in Congress. President johnson was impeached in 1868, and Northern Democrats and moderate Republicans supported him. The northern Democrats supported his conservative policies because they believed that if the Union was renewed the Northern and Southern Democrats could combine and be the most powerful group. The cores of impeachment wereestablished in politics as well as digust directed at the strengthening command of the president. The impeachment can be seen as a skirmish between the legislative and executive branch which did not dampen the dominances of the president and took place in two steps. The prosecution was led Radical Republican Thaddeus Stevens. Secretary of War Edwin Stanton was also an important figure. Andrew johnson was inept to getting political allies to agree with him. The Tenure of Office Act in 1867 restricted the president from dismissing an official approved by Congress. The entire impeachment depended on whether Johnson had violated the Tenure of Office Act. Vinnie Ream saved Johnson and the Southern states from a more mean Reconstruction. The end.
