Are Automated External Defibrillators a Corporate Responsibility?

If you still don't know, nearly 350,000 plus people in America die each year due to Sudden Cardiac Arrest or SCA.
SCA is considered to be the most notorious and deadly disease amongst all as it can happen to anyone regardless of age and anywhere from private to public places.
The increasing number of deaths related to SCA made way to amend laws requiring all types of establishments frequented by people to have at least one functional AED on site.
Fitness clubs, parks, swimming pools, schools, train stations, malls, dental clinics and all others are now required to follow the law and the corporate world is no exemption.
With regards to the above places where AED is required to be installed, it seems that corporate America holds much value compared to others.
There are many reasons why corporate America should install not just one but as many as possible AED devices, some of which are but not limited to:
  • There is a huge population involve in corporate America that in one building alone, thousands of employees work day and night.
Compared to parks and train stations, the corporate world is filled with people 24/7 any time of the day.
They hold too much inhabitants that risking each other's life is indeed unacceptable.
  • Thousands of people who work on the said building experiences stress each and every minute when at work (no pun intended).
The corporate is such a challenging world that all types of stress may happen on every employee.
Note that stress can be a contributory factor to SCA.
Fight with the boss, depressing deadlines, pressure to meet requirements and all others might result to Sudden Cardiac Arrest, though a pre-existing medical condition is considered.
  • The corporate world suggests unhealthy lifestyle.
Compared to other types of work that uses all physical strength to make a productive day, the corporate world uses mental strength instead jeopardizing the physical health of the body.
Imagine that for 8 hours a day, you are only entitled for just a quick break or lunch then the rest is spend on your little office chair.
On your office chair you spend nearly half of your day doing working thus minimizing your physical activity leading to a sedentary lifestyle.
Exceptions may apply for those who are physically active at work e.
    g.
using the stairs instead of the elevator, walking around the building from time to time, eating high protein less caloric meals.
  • Individuals aged 50 and above shares a huge number to the corporate world.
Aside from young professionals, majority of corporate workers are aged 50 and above that makes them a good candidate for SCA attack.
These are your managers, supervisors, directors, long time employees, CEO, board members and all others.
True that corporate America is such a prestige world to live in but beyond its beauty are heath risks that needs to be answered as quickly as possible.
However, corporate America is not the only one who needs AED present on site; each and every establishment in this world should have one.
To this end, having an AED is not only a sole responsibility to the corporate world but to all types of establishment, houses, leisure parks and all others as long as they want to prolong human life.
Having an AED is more than a responsibility but more of a merciful act towards preserving life.
