Golden Retriever Puppy - How Do I Find The Right Breeder?

Dear Golden Friend, knowing what you want is most important.
Knowing how to get it is just as important, isn't it? When it comes to getting a Golden Retriever puppy knowing where to get it is of paramount importance! There are many people who sell Golden Retriever puppies world wide.
With Facebook and eBay blooming you find offers from all over the place and many people order their puppy almost online.
I have heard the most awful unhappiness stories from folks around the globe because they trusted some untrustworthy source and had to pay a hefty price for doing so.
Don't fall into that trap! Getting a Golden Retriever puppy can be a joyous experience when you have found a good reliable breeder who does his best to bring up sound and healthy litters and takes time to educate you as a new puppy parent.
A good breeder takes pride in what he is doing.
He puts lots of thought into each and every litter, making sure to breed only from healthy stock.
He does not sell his puppies easily because he chooses new owners wisely, asking them all sorts of questions.
After all, he loves his puppies and feels responsible for their welfare.
The most ideal setup would be to find a breeder locally so that you can go and visit your pup several times before you take her home.
That way you create a loving bond from a very early age.
Since your baby has met you several times she will feel more comfortable when you finally come to take her away with you.
But this is not an ideal word and so many of us have to compromise.
Second best would be a breeder not too far away for you to visit the puppies twice.
I would not advise you to get a puppy without having met the breeder at least once before and without having had a closer look at his premises.
Any good breeder will ask you to come and meet him and his dogs before he makes up his mind to let you have one in the first place.
So he will welcome your request to come and visit him and his Goldens.
Ask to see the health certificates of his bitch and the sire of the puppies as well as the hip score and eye certificates of both parents.
Should you live in a country with kennel club regulations make sure the breeder you have chosen follows those rules.
Listen to your heart and trust your feelings.
A spotless place does not necessarily mean that the kennel is a good one, it just means that it has been cleaned before you came.
You never know how it looks when you're not there.
Take a close look at mother.
It would be normal for her milkbar to be a bit baggy but she should not have any infection or wounds there.
Some years ago a man wanting to buy a Golden went to visit a so called breeder and found everything to be okay.
When I asked him if he had seen the mother he said he had.
I asked him about mother's milk bar and he said that her teats looked good.
I asked if the milk bar was a bit lower than in a maiden bitch and he told me that it was all nice and tight.
Well, my friend, a lactating, puppy feeding mother does have big teats! He then realized that he hadn't been shown the mother at all which meant that the "breeder" was a puppy dealer.
Needless to say that the young man went somewhere else to get his puppy.
I hope this serves you and that you have enjoyed this article! With golden thoughts from Germany Martina Annelie
