5 Things you can do for a dog with depression: 1.
Take him/her for a walk.
The number one reason why dogs get depressed is because there is a lack new experiences.
In the wild, dogs are contently on the move and see new things everyday.
A dog who is locked up in the house all day then gets to explore even the largest of backyards in the evening is just going to become bored eventually and become a dog with depression.
2.
Teach him/her a new trick.
Constant training is needed not only to better the relationship between you and your dog but it all so comes down to mental stimulation again.
Imagine if you never learned everything new and your daily routine never changed.
This would get awfully boring, it's no wonder you have a dog with depression! 3.
Take your dog on a field trip.
Go some where especially new to your dog.
Yep, it's all about boredom again.
Taking your dog to a new dog park or to a new lake/river or even down a different street on your walk could drastically improve your dog's mood.
Never underestimate the power that new experiences have on a dog with depression.
4.
Change your dog's food.
This could be a bit difficult.
I never suggest changing a dog's food outright but changing it little by little works much better.
Start mixing in the new food with your dog's old food until they become acclimated to the new food.
Switching food too fast may cause your dog to have stomach issues.
Imagine if you had to eat the same thing ever day at the same time and the same amount...
it would drive you crazy! Try mixing it up a bit maybe even introduce some wet food as a treat.
5.
Arrange a play date.
Pick a friend that has a friendly dog and arrange for your dogs to play together (assuming your dog is also friendly).
Dogs need social activities too and although you love them sometimes there's nothing that can replace the company of another canine pal.
This is a great way to help your dog with depression and get some quality gossip time in with your friend!
