How to Install a Fuel Filter on a 96 Accord

    • 1). Park your car and apply the parking brake. Unscrew the fuel filler cap located on the driver's side of your car. Leave the fuel filler cap unscrewed. Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery cable. Find your power distributor box just beside your battery and disconnect the fuel pump relay. Start your car and allow your engine to idle until your car runs out of gas.

    • 2). Locate your fuel filter housing unit. On a 1996 Honda Accord it is under the hood on the driver's side mounted to the rear corner of the engine compartment. Inspect your fuel filter for a large clamp on top of the filter; this is your power steering feed hose clamp. Remove your power steering feed hose clamp.

    • 3). Use an adjustable wrench to remove the banjo bolt that connects the fuel filter to the fuel rail. Once the banjo bolts have been removed, you will be able to remove the fuel filter by simply pulling it upwards out of the fuel rail. Remove the fuel filter.

    • 4). Replace the old fuel filter with a new fuel filter. Place the new fuel filter on top of the fuel rail. Use an adjustable wrench to secure the fuel filter in place with the banjo bolts. Secure the fuel filter housing unit in place with the power steering feed hose clamp.

    • 5). Reconnect the fuel pump relay to the power distributor box. Attach the negative battery cable to the battery. Screw your fuel filler cap back onto your tank.
