There are plenty of beaches to visit throughout beautiful San Diego, and Coronado Island has five of its own.
They are all a little different on this small peninsula-island, so choose the one that is best for you and your family.
Central Beach: The main municipal beach of Coronado is located just above the famed Hotel del Coronado.
This is a great spot for a beach day with the family, as there are restrooms, showers, and ample parking spots available.
Entry and parking are both free, but the spots can get pretty full so it is always best to come earlier rather than later in the day.
Dog Beach: Located at the northernmost part of the peninsula, right next to the Naval Base, this area is great for you and your pets to frolic in the sand.
The tides are normally minimal and the water is pretty shallow, so it's a great area to get your dog used to the water.
There is even a fountain with a hose at the entrance so you can rinse off the sand.
There are plenty of stations with trash bins and stocked with doggy bags.
Glorietta Bay Beach: This area has one of the best views of San Diego available.
A small and simple beach area, the waves are good for learning and the fire pits are great for get-togethers.
Silver Strand State Beach: This is a gorgeous strand of beach between the southern tip of Coronado and mainland San Diego.
It is about 4.
5 miles south of Coronado Village near Loews Coronado Bay Resort.
This strand is complete with restrooms, showers, lifeguards, and a picnic area.
The only downside is that it is a state park so the entry fee is $8.
Ferry Landing Marketplace: This area is almost always packed with tourists and locals, as the marketplace has a small beach area that abuts tons of little souvenir stands, shops and restaurants.
It is adjacent to the fishing and ferry pier and complete with a small grassy lawn; great excitement and a great view.
