Decades ago, the candle was the ultimate source of heat and light inside the homes. Since it is light and handy, its usage is very much appreciated. Even today when most countries are tasting the essence of electricity, the candle has survived. Aside from giving light, the candle has been found to be an effective means of providing a romantic mood in various establishments. Truly, the candle has played an important role in the society, especially for people who are still relying to it.
But the high demand for candles, especially the scented ones, brought about the increase in cost. One way to avoid emptying your pocket just so you can buy a candle is to make one yourself. It may sound tedious but in fact, it is very easy to do. Not only do you save some bucks, you also get to personalize the candles €" something which is not offered by stores.
Today, the usual wax used in making candles is paraffin. This wax is mainly petroleum and thus, contains not purely safe components. To protect our health, a more natural wax is best for use. This is why beeswax is a good type of wax for use. Its scent is good for the body. Since bee farms are numerous, you can buy the wax for a really cheap price.
Learning how to make candles with beeswax is very easy. What you have to decide on first is the method you prefer your candles to be done. One method is the easiest and involves rolling the beeswax. After obtaining a sheet of wax, place a waxed wick on the side. Make sure that the wick runs through the entire length of the sheet. Carefully roll the sheet and make sure there is no spaces between the portions of the wax.
Molding the candles using containers is also another method of making the candles. This is what most people prefer since no wax residue is left in their hands. Materials include the wax, wicks, double-boiler or pan, molding container and fragrance oils. First, melt the beeswax but control the temperature to the point that it is not boiling hot. Wax has the tendency to burst when under extreme heat. A double-boiler is the best option since the heat is not directly applied to the wax. But you may use an ordinary steel pan if you do not have a double-boiler. When the wax is fully melted, pour it gently onto the container mold. A wick must be secured in the middle of the mold and must be the height of the mold. If you prefer good-smelling candles, a drop of fragrance oil is enough.
Still another method of candle-making is dipping. This is a very old method and involves the same materials as the method using molds. The only difference is that one dips the wick from time to time into the melted wax. Thus, to obtain a big candle, one must dip the wick as many times possible.
The good thing about candle-making is that it can be a time for leisure for the family. Kids and parents alike will enjoy it. If the produced candles come out above ordinary, you can even sell them.
